Every US number is 10 digits
US numbers are a 3-digit area code plus 7 digits, and there is no leading 0 to remove. Americans often write them as (212) 555-0142. You dial 00 1 212 555 0142 from a UK landline, or +1 212 555 0142 from a mobile.
A number starting 800, 888, 877 or 866 is a US toll-free line. These often do not work from the UK, so look for a regular number for international callers.
