How to buy an eSIM with crypto

Which coin to use, which network to send on, what it costs, and how private it really is. Everything, in one place.

Updated September 27, 2026 · SimVala editorial

You buy an eSIM with crypto by topping up a balance with a coin you hold, then buying any plan from that balance. No card, no email, no ID.

Simple enough. But the details matter.

Pick the wrong network and your payment can vanish. Pick the wrong coin and you pay more in fees than you need to. And “paying with crypto” is not automatically private.

This guide walks you through all of it. You will learn:

  • How the balance model works, and why it is faster than paying per order
  • Which of the nine coins suits you, with a 10-second picker
  • The one network rule that keeps your money safe
  • Exactly what the payment screen shows, and what to send
  • What it costs, and why there is no crypto markup
  • How private your payment really is

Let's get started.

Chapter 1

Crypto eSIM basics

How paying with crypto works at SimVala, in two moves.

SimVala works like a prepaid wallet. You turn crypto into a dollar balance once, then spend that balance on whatever you need.

That covers four products: eSIM data plans, virtual numbers, one-time SMS codes, and calling minutes. One top-up pays for all of them.

Any of nine coins becomes one dollar balance, which buys anything we sell.

Why a balance instead of paying per order?

Because crypto payments take a few minutes to confirm. Nobody wants to wait for that at an airport gate.

With a balance, you wait once, whenever it suits you. After that, buying an eSIM takes seconds, because the money is already there.

Stablecoins land at face value, so $50 of USDT becomes about $50 of balance. Other coins are converted at the live rate when you top up.

Who pays for eSIMs with crypto?

A wider group than you might think:

  • Privacy-minded people who do not want a card trail behind their phone data.
  • Travelers and digital nomads who want data the moment they land, with no roaming bill.
  • Crypto holders who would rather spend coins than reach for a card.
  • People with limited banking for whom crypto is simply the payment method that works.
  • Anyone verifying accounts who needs a number without handing over their own.
Chapter 2

Why crypto, not a card

Three reasons people choose crypto, and the one trade-off to respect.

Most people pay for an eSIM with crypto for privacy, access, or simply because they hold crypto.

Privacy

A card ties your name, bank, and address to the order. Crypto does not.

Access

Cards get declined abroad. Crypto works wherever you have a wallet.

No holds

No card holds, no processor in the middle, no chargeback games.

Here is how that looks next to a typical card-based eSIM store:

SimValaCard-based store
Pay in crypto
No card or bank on file
Nothing on a bank statement
No email or name on file
Works without a bank account
Reversible if you make a mistake

The one trade-off

That last row is real. A card payment can be disputed. A crypto payment cannot be pulled back.

In practice, that only matters if you send the wrong amount or use the wrong network. Chapters 4 and 5 show you how to get both right every time.

Chapter 3

Which coin to use

Nine coins, one right answer for you. Here is how to find it.

Use USDT on Tron for a cheap, stable top-up, Monero for privacy, and Solana for speed. Or just spend what you already hold.

Not sure? Tell the picker what matters most to you:

Network: Tron (TRC-20), or USDC on BSC

Stablecoins are pegged to the dollar, so a $50 top up lands as exactly $50 of balance. Tron keeps the network fee near zero.

Every coin has its own guide with the exact steps:

No crypto yet? Here is how to get some

If you have never bought crypto, the most common route is simple:

  1. 1Buy USDT or another coin on a crypto exchange, with a card or bank transfer.
  2. 2Withdraw it to your own wallet, or straight to our payment address.
  3. 3Pick the cheap network when you withdraw, like Tron for USDT.

One honest note: most exchanges check your ID when you sign up. That does not stop you buying from us without ID, but it does mean the exchange knows who bought the coins. Chapter 7 explains what that means for privacy.

Chapter 4

Networks, explained simply

The part that trips people up, and the one rule that keeps your money safe.

Some coins, like USDT and USDC, exist on more than one blockchain. Each blockchain is called a network, and the network you pick changes the fee and the speed.

Think of it like the same currency moving through different banks. The dollars are the same, but the route is not.

Tron

TRC-20

Lowest fees

usdt logotrx logo

The cheapest place to send USDT.

BNB Smart Chain

BEP-20

Low fees

usdt logousdc logobnb logo

Cheap and fast, for USDT, USDC, or BNB.

Ethereum

ERC-20

Higher when busy

eth logousdt logousdc logo

The most widely supported, but pricier at peak times.

Bitcoin, Monero, Solana, and Polygon each run on their own single network, so there is nothing to choose there.

The one rule that matters

Send on the same network you picked at checkout. USDT on Tron and USDT on Ethereum are not interchangeable.

Same network

Checkout USDT on Tron

Wallet sends USDT on Tron

Credited to your balance automatically

Different network

Checkout USDT on Tron

Wallet sends USDT on Ethereum

Not credited, and hard or impossible to recover

Same coin, different network: only the matching one is credited.
Chapter 5

Step by step

From your wallet to a working eSIM, in four steps.

The whole flow takes a few minutes, most of it waiting for the network to confirm. Here is exactly what you will see.

  1. 1Choose an amount and coinPick $20.00 to $500.00, then your coin and network.
  2. 2Send the exact amountScan the QR or copy the address, and send the exact figure shown. The quote holds for 15 minutes.
  3. 3Buy from your balanceOnce the payment confirms, your balance updates automatically. Pick your eSIM, number, code, or minutes.
  4. 4Scan and connectYour eSIM QR code appears in your dashboard. Scan it in your phone settings.

How long does a payment take?

It depends on the coin. Your balance credits once the network has confirmed the payment, and some networks are much quicker than others:

Fastest

sol logotrx logopol logo

Solana, TRON, Polygon

Usually seconds to a minute or two.

Fast

eth logobnb logo

Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain

Usually a few minutes.

Slower

btc logoxmr logo

Bitcoin, Monero

Bitcoin adds a block about every 10 minutes, and Monero payments usually wait for several blocks, so allow longer.

You do not need to keep the page open. The balance updates on its own once the payment confirms.

What happens after you buy

Orders are processed automatically. You will see your order move through three statuses:

  1. PendingPaid from your balance.
  2. ProcessingSet up automatically.
  3. DeliveredReady in your dashboard.

If an order is cancelled, the money goes straight back to your balance.

Most orders go from Pending to Delivered within minutes.
Chapter 6

What it costs

Real prices from the store, and why paying in crypto costs nothing extra.

Paying with crypto costs exactly the dollar price. We add no markup. The amount you send is the price divided by the live rate.

USDT logo$50÷$1.00=50 USDT
Bitcoin logo$50÷$100,000=0.0005 BTC
Monero logo$50÷$250=0.2 XMR

No markup, no hidden fee in the rate.

Example rates. Your quote uses the live rate.

How the crypto amount is worked out. Example rates.

Your wallet or the network charges its own small fee to send, the same as any crypto transfer. That fee goes to the network, not to us.

Real prices

eSIM plans start at $0.69. Some 5 GB examples, 30 days:

United Kingdom$3.99
United States$4.99
Japan$4.49

And everything else your balance can buy:

How that compares

Against numeroesim, a popular eSIM and number app paid by card, SimVala runs about 50% cheaper on eSIM data on average, between 49% and 56% depending on the region, measured across every plan size.

Chapter 7

How private is it?

What we see, what the blockchain shows, and which coin hides the most.

Two things decide how private a crypto purchase is: what the seller stores, and what your coin reveals. We keep the first tiny. You choose the second.

What we store

  • Your account number, as a one-way hash
  • Your balance and orders
  • The payments you sent us

What we never hold

  • Your name or email
  • Card or bank details
  • A billing address

The payment itself is another matter. Most coins run on public ledgers, where anyone can read the amount and the addresses. Monero is the exception.

Chapter 8

Legal, refunds and mistakes

The honest fine print, and the four mistakes worth avoiding.

Is buying an eSIM with crypto legal?

In most countries, yes. Crypto is treated as a payment method or an asset. It does not turn an ordinary purchase of mobile data into something illegal.

You are responsible for using your connection within local laws, and a small set of sanctioned countries is excluded at checkout.

Full guideIs buying an eSIM with crypto legal? What the law says, and what it means for you.

Refunds and the ID exception

Refunds go to your balance

Your money returns to your balance, ready for another plan, number, or code. Nothing is lost.

ID is never needed to buy

A few regulated products in a few countries need an upstream check. We tell you first. Decline, and the money returns to your balance.

Four mistakes to avoid

Sending on the wrong networkMatch the network on our payment screen, not your wallet's default.
Letting the quote expireQuotes hold for 15 minutes. If it lapses, start a fresh one.
Rounding the amountSend the exact figure. If your wallet takes its fee out of the amount, add it on top.
Topping up at the last minuteAdd balance before you need it, so buying the eSIM is instant.

If something goes wrong

Sent the wrong amount, or a payment is not showing after a while? Get in touch and include the transaction ID from your wallet, the coin, and the network. That is all we need to find it.

Never send us your account number. It is your login, and we will never ask for it.
