Cheapest way to send USDT, right now

In short

Right now the cheapest network to send USDT is Solana, at about $0.0005 per transfer. The list below shows the live cost on five networks, cheapest first, straight from each network. But always send on the network the receiver asks for, even if another one is cheaper.

Right now Solana is cheapest and Tron costs the most. These are typical costs when you pay the network fee yourself from your own wallet. Exchanges charge their own withdrawal fee instead, and Tron fees drop a lot if you hold staked TRX or rented energy.

USDT on each network: names, addresses and the coin you need

USDT is one dollar token that lives on many networks at once, and each network has its own nickname for it. TRC-20 means Tron, ERC-20 means Ethereum and BEP-20 means BNB Smart Chain. The fee is always paid in the network's own coin, never in USDT.

Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and Polygon share the same 0x address format, so one address can hold USDT on all three. The money on each is still separate.

Why Tron is popular but often not cheapest

Tron became the default for USDT back when its fees were tiny, and big exchanges still pay little because they stake TRX for energy. From your own wallet it is different. Each USDT transfer needs about 65,000 energy, and if you have none, the network burns TRX from your wallet to cover it. Today that is about 6.84 TRX per transfer.

A first transfer to a wallet that has never held USDT costs roughly twice as much, because the network has to create a new balance entry for the receiver. Solana has a similar one-off cost to open the receiver's USDT account, though it is much smaller.

You can cut Tron fees by staking TRX, which earns you free energy every day, or by renting energy from someone who has staked. That is worth it if you send USDT often. For one payment a month, the network that is cheapest in the list above is usually the simpler choice, as long as the receiver accepts it.

How each USDT fee is worked out

Every network charges for the work a transfer takes, then turns it into its own coin. We read the live gas or energy price from each network every minute and multiply it by the usual size of a USDT transfer.

  • ETH logo Ethereum$0.03Gas price now × about 65,000 gas, paid in ETH. Gas goes up when the network is busy.
  • BNB logo BNB Smart Chain$0.0020Gas price now × about 55,000 gas, paid in BNB. Gas prices here are very low most of the time.
  • POL logo Polygon$0.0016Gas price now × about 65,000 gas, paid in POL.
  • TRX logo Tron$2.26About 65,000 energy at the live energy price, plus about 0.345 TRX of bandwidth, paid in TRX.
  • SOL logo Solana$0.0005One signature, 0.000005 SOL. A first transfer to a new wallet also pays about 0.00203928 SOL to open its USDT account.

Six mistakes that cost more than the fee

Most lost money is not lost to fees. It is lost to small slips before you press send. These are the ones we see most.

  • No fee coin in the walletYou hold 100 USDT on Tron but no TRX, so the transfer cannot go out. Keep a few dollars of the network's own coin next to your USDT.
  • Picking the network by price aloneThe cheapest network is useless if the receiver does not watch it. USDT on one network cannot arrive on another.
  • Comparing exchange fees to wallet feesAn exchange withdrawal fee is the exchange's own price. Your wallet pays the network's real price, shown above.
  • Mixing up TON and TronThe names look alike, but they are two separate networks. A Tron address starts with T; a TON address usually starts with EQ or UQ.
  • Sending Ethereum USDT in a rush hourEthereum gas rises and falls during the day. If the amount is not urgent, wait for a quieter moment and the fee drops.
  • Forgetting the first-transfer costOn Tron and Solana, the first USDT sent to a brand new wallet costs extra once. Budget for it.

How to send USDT for the lowest fee

  1. Ask which networks

Ask the receiver which USDT networks they accept. Write the name down exactly: TRC-20, ERC-20 or BEP-20.

  2. Check the live list

Of the networks they accept, pick the cheapest one in the list above.

  3. Top up the fee coin

Make sure the same wallet holds a little TRX, ETH, BNB, POL or SOL for that network.

  4. Test, then send

For a big amount, send a small test first and wait until the receiver sees it.

Pick the network the receiver supports

USDT on one network cannot arrive on another. The cheapest fee is only worth it if the receiver watches that network. If you send BEP-20 USDT to an exchange that only credits ERC-20 deposits, the money lands at the address but never shows in the account, and getting it back is up to their support.

USDT fees, answered

What is the cheapest network to send USDT?+

Right now it is Solana. It changes with network traffic and coin prices, which is why the table above is live. BNB Smart Chain, Polygon and Solana usually cost cents or less; Ethereum and Tron cost more when you pay the fee yourself.

Why is sending USDT on Tron expensive?+

Tron charges USDT transfers in energy. If your wallet has no staked TRX or rented energy, it burns TRX to pay, which comes to a few dollars per transfer, and about double when the receiver has never held USDT.

Which network should I use to send USDT?+

The one the receiver supports, every time. A cheaper network is no use if the receiver does not watch it. If they accept several, pick the cheapest in the table.

Why does my exchange charge a different fee?+

Exchanges set their own withdrawal fees, often a flat amount per network. The table shows what the network itself costs when you send from your own wallet.

Do I need TRX, ETH or BNB to send USDT?+

Yes. The fee is never paid in USDT itself. You need a small amount of the network's own coin in the same wallet: TRX on Tron, ETH on Ethereum, BNB on BNB Smart Chain, POL on Polygon and SOL on Solana.

Is USDT on TON the same as USDT on Tron?+

No. TON and Tron are two different networks with similar names. USDT sent on one cannot arrive on the other. Check the address: Tron addresses start with T, TON addresses usually start with EQ or UQ.

Which USDT networks does SimVala accept?+

Tron (TRC-20), Ethereum (ERC-20) and BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20). The top-up screen shows the network and address for the one you pick.
