The 2019 change: no more 1, 044 or 01
Until August 2019, calling a Mexican mobile from abroad meant adding a 1 after 52, and people inside Mexico used 044 and 01 prefixes. Mexico retired all of that and moved every number to a flat 10 digits.
So if a contact is saved as +52 1 and ten digits, remove the 1. If someone gives you a number starting 044 or 045, drop those too. What is left is always 10 digits, whether it is a mobile or a landline.
Area codes are part of the 10 digits
Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey have 2-digit area codes (55, 33 and 81), followed by 8 digits. Everywhere else the area code is 3 digits, followed by 7. Either way the total is 10, so you never add or remove anything in the middle.
Mexico stopped changing its clocks
Most of Mexico dropped daylight saving time in 2022, while the US still changes its clocks twice a year. That means the gap between New York and Mexico City is 1 hour in winter and 2 hours in summer. Border cities like Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez still follow US clock changes.
