How a Telegram link is built
The format: https://t.me/<username> or https://t.me/+<number>. Both kinds of link can carry a first message with ?text=, which Telegram puts in the message box.

Short for telegram.me. It opens the app on phones and computers, and shows a preview page in a browser without Telegram.

The public name, without the @. It is 5 to 32 characters of letters, numbers and underscores.

Telegram calls this a draft. It waits in the message box until the person presses send, and they can change it first.
Username link, number link or invite link?
Three kinds of Telegram link start with t.me, and they do very different jobs. This tool makes the first two.

When a Telegram link is the right tool
Telegram is built around public profiles, channels and bots, so a t.me link often does more than a bare phone number could.
- Channel and group adminsPut a link to your personal username in the channel description, so readers can message the admin without joining a group.
- Sellers and support desksA username link with a draft like "Order question:" sorts incoming chats before you even open them.
- BotsBots also live at t.me/name. To pass data into a bot, Telegram uses ?start= rather than ?text=, which this tool does not add.
- Forum and email profilesA username link keeps working after you change phones or numbers, as long as you keep the username.
Username links are the better choice
A link built from your username, like t.me/yourname, never shows your phone number. You can change the username later, and people can reach you without ever seeing your number.
Set a username in Telegram under Settings, then Username. It needs 5 to 32 letters, numbers or underscores and must start with a letter.
Phone number links depend on privacy settings
A t.me/+number link only opens a chat if the owner lets people find them by phone number. If someone has turned that off, the link shows an error. That is Telegram protecting them, not a broken link.
The switch lives in Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Phone Number. Under "Who can find me by my number", Everybody lets number links reach you, and My Contacts blocks strangers.
Set up a username before you share it
Open Settings
On a phone, tap Settings at the bottom. On the desktop app, open the menu at the top left and pick Settings.
Pick a username
Tap Username and type one. Telegram tells you at once if the name is free or already taken.
Paste it above
Switch the tool to Username, type the name, and copy your link or download the QR code.
Keep your personal number out of it
Telegram needs a phone number to sign up, even if you only share your username. If you would rather not tie Telegram to your personal number, register it on a second number.
A second phone number gets sign-up codes and calls, so you can register Telegram on it and share the link freely. Need only the code? A one-time SMS code number costs less than a dollar.

How do I make a Telegram link?+
For a username, use https://t.me/ and the username, like https://t.me/yourname. For a number, use https://t.me/+ and the full international number. The generator builds either one.
Can a Telegram link include a message?+
Yes. Telegram supports ?text= on chat links, which puts your message in the box ready to send.
Why does my t.me phone link not work?+
The person has probably set Telegram so nobody can find them by number. Use their username link instead.
Does a username link show my phone number?+
No. A username link only shows your name and profile, never your number, unless your own privacy settings share it.
Can I link to a Telegram channel?+
Yes. A public channel has a username, so t.me/channelname opens it. Type the channel's username in the tool. Private channels use invite links, which only an admin can create.
What is a temporary profile link?+
If you have no username, Telegram can show a QR code for your profile that holds a temporary link. It expires, so it suits a meeting, not a printed flyer. A username link does not expire.
